China: clarification on the exemption from animal testing
In the context of the change in regulations in China, draft texts have provided for the possibility, under strict conditions, of not carrying out toxicological tests on animals but of using alternative methods.
This exemption would be valid only for general cosmetics, with the obligation to present a complete report on the safety of the product and a GMP certificate (ISO Standard 22716) issued exclusively by the authorities of the country of origin, ANSM in France.
Despite the publication on January 12, 2021 of the Administratives Measures for cosmetic Registration and Filling, many official texts are still missing to validate this exemption from animal testing and to specify the requirements of the Chinese authorities in terms of safety assessment.
